In Reply to: I suspect that you assume that without a scientific explanation that you find plausible, you suspect fraud. Correct? posted by Norm on May 28, 2006 at 20:59:43:
I'll just quote my self from my previous post." There is nothing wrong, illegal, immoral or unethical with people being affected by placebo effects and turning around and marketing that to others. OTOH when these manufacturers start making claims of cause and effect they are usually making claims tht are scientifically varifiable. At that point they are subject to scutiny. Why not? and when it goes further, to the point of fraud then I think policing is called for." Wasn't that clear enough the first time?"This is my only assumption about you gathered from what you have said."
Not a very bright assumption given what I have already said.
" Why should you be the decider of whether the claims are the truth?"
Ah another not so bright assumption. Where did I ever say I was the decide of anything? Why do you have a problem with other people looking at verifiable claims and putting them to the test? Are you anti-information?
" Do you preface your opinions by saying they are your opinions?"
Yes I do." Do you say that despite your rejection of the truth of the claims, others may conclude they like the product and not be deluding themselves?"
Dude have you read anything i have said? Let me quote myself again from the post you seem to have failed to understand on any level." I am all for maximum listening pleasure. If bias effects, placebo effects are enhancing that pleasue i have no problem with that at all. I don't even have a problem with people selling poducts that have no other effect than a placebo. There is nothing wrong, illegal, immoral or unethical with people being affected by placebo effects and turning around and marketing that to others. " Not only do I say it, I say it without all the derogatory language.
" I doubt it."Maybe you should pay attention to what is being said and you won't make such careless goofs on public forums.
"The broad brush is my distrust of those who appoint themselves about what is a truthful claim by a manufacturer."The broad brush you use is clearly one built from voluntary ignorance. I have no sympathy for your mistakes or your paranoia. Some peope will seek varification of testable claims despite your wishes that such information remain uncovered. That's life in the big city dude. if it threatens your belief system to bad.
" I would not buy many tweaks without hearing them. I did hear a demonstration of the IC and along with the ten others in the demonstration bought several. I continue to use the many ICs I bought and find many cds and sacds, but not all, benefit from it. I did not buy the Ultra-tweeters or even the Clever Little Clock as I never hear a demonstration. I don't need to be saved by you or by Mr. Austin."
I don't care.
