Norm, do you wear glasses?

I do, and I'd guess plenty of inmates do also. Basically, the method used to determine eyeglass prescription is "blind" testing. But it is a completely unemotional process, nobody has anything whatsoever invested in the various lenses the Dr. switches back and forth during the testing. Aesthetics only enter the equation in the choice of frames. We simply -- and quickly -- tell the examiner which lense allows us to see clearer. Sure, there are occasional mistakes, and a small % of people are unhappy with their prescription and have to repeat the process. But we all accept the methodology. Kind of interesting to me that this kind of "blind" testing related to sight doesn't engender the heated arguments that blind testing sparks related to hearing.

I'm in favor of blind listening for audio, particularly in the context of reviews. But the blind comparison I advocate has no time constraints, no switch box or necessity for quick back & forth comparison, would take place in the reviewer's familiar environment and utilize a wide variety of music which he/she is familiar with. It would involve several leisurely blind comparisons taking place over the period of time the mag allows for a normal review process.
