Re: No, it's the other way around

With the exception of transducers, all audio system components are strictly electrical devices. The only rational method to evaluate them other than price, reliablity or features is based on measured electrical performance. The selection of one component which causes a sound system to perform differently from another based on "audible preference" rather than superior electrical specifications makes no logical sense because if it is real, its difference is due to different electrical performance alone. That the shortcomings of one component mitigates those of others does not make it a good choice unless it is anticipated that it will never be used in any other system with any other combination of components. Those who claim that there are audible differences which cannot be traced to differences in measured electrical performance have the onus of proving it. But they have an uphill battle. They are fighting centuries of mathematical analysis supporting nearly a century of electrical measurement theory and practice all of which are accepted my mainstream scientists and engineers. About the only area where they may have a chance to make an inroad is to claim that standard lab tests do not duplicate real world conditions of use. In that case, they should devise better tests which do to prove their point. Professional audio engineers who specify and install this kind of equipment for a living have no problem with this point of view. Only hobbyists and those who make and sell this kind of equipment to them argue the point.
