surely you know you've gone overboard

You cannot really believe that such a broad statement has any relation to reality.

Scientists are human beings and many, if not most, have faith in many areas beyond the scientific method.

Science is just a tool, but it is the best tool that we have found so far to find out about the world around us. The tool involves careful observation. And this involves some effort to control variables- although people often make mistakes and many experiments are invalid for reasons that show up later. And it also involves honest communication so that other people can try to replicate results. In the end, a replicable result can lead to a prediction and then maybe this can also be verified.

Audio is just a hobby, not life or death, so none of this is really important. But it is nice when some people do try to control variables and honestly report results so that others may attempt to replicate them.

I should say it would be nice, since none of this seems to happen at all.
