Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Hey, I've got some of those!

I needed some cables that would fit my vintage amps with tight RCA jack spacing. This character at High Fidelity of Lubbock (my old stomping ground in the 70's) said he had just the thing. They are 2-m RG6 cables with what I later discovered to be 18-gauge steel coated with copper conductors. They have quad shields, and tiny nickel RCA plugs that are crimped on, probably because you can't solder to the outer foil shield. Of course, I don't think they were heavily oxidized:)

The funny thing is, this place still claims to be the high-end in Lubbock, TX. They are still the McIntosh dealer, though there is a place with B&W on the other side of town. The kid claimed that he used these in his home system. Don't know what his components are. I'm guessing most of the stuff in the store, he couldn't afford.

I finally found something a lot more flexible (and made with copper)that would fit, Straightwire Symphony 2.
