DBT's - why would I want to (or need to) go through all the hassle of trying to set up a DBT that naysayers would deem credible and with appropriate methodology in order to attempt to "prove" something to the naysayers? What would it prove? If I found some professional audio psychologist or something that would come on this board and state unequivocally that I correctly picked out 3 cables from each other in a DBT, would you believe it? Doubtful. You'd then ask me to perform this parlor trick in front of witnesses that YOU (this is the plural naysayer you, not you personally) would deem credible. You'd want umpteen trials. All this I do for you. Why? Who ARE you?

>If someone mentions they failed to hear cable difference in a blind test, then the dogmatic believers demand they therefore must blind-test EVERYTHING to be credible.<

If someone mentions they failed to hear cable differences in a blind test, I say "fine" and move on. The only time I demand you blind test everything is when I'm retorting to someone who tells me my personal experiences are bogus because I haven't blind tested them. So... do YOU blind test everything? Why or why not? I don't because it's a waste of time. What'll it prove? And I"m not totally convinced DBT's are valid, although I have to say that our former PropHead resident of the silver eared persuasion (SEJ) has provided a lot of evidence and research material. But others have done the same for the alternate POV. It's certainly food for thought.

>There’s nothing in between for the dogmatic "yea-sayer" – you either completely trust your ears or if you don’t, then you must be deaf. <

There's plenty in between! Can all yeasayers tell the difference between all cables in all systems under all circumstances? NO WAY! I can't tell the difference between certain shades of green and gray - does that make me blind? Well, maybe a little color blind. But quite honestly, the argument about a system's resolving power has a lot of truth to it. I could not tell the difference in my second, more "mid-fi" system between AQ Type 4 and the AQ Volcano I used in my main rig. If a system won't resolve cable differences, cables don't matter. Also, listening skills have more to do with deciphering cable differences than hearing acuity. But if I had to pick one reason why naysayers don't hear cable differences, I'd say it's their predisposition NOT to. You see, dogmatic beliefs are very powerful. Would you not agree?

My "problem" with the naysayers isn't the demand for DBT, however. Demand away. If some year I'm not too busy I might try one just for giggles. And you're free to demand whatever you wish, just as I'm free to tell you to go take a hike. My problem is the complete and total arrogance of anyone who would presume to tell others what they can and can't hear. If YOU can't hear something, fine. That doesn't mean others can't. THAT'S what I mean by black and white thinking. Skeptics? Are there any around here? The naysayer posts I've seen would indicate skepticism has long been replaced with a more negative absolutist attitude.
