"In point of fact, there are no listening tests for audio cable sonics that have been done to the highest professional standards, NONE."Posted by Jon Risch a bit further down in the thread. Jon then continues saying that "strictly interpreted there is no scientific evidence against cable sonics....."
By the same token one can say that "strictly interpreted there is no scientific evidence FOR cable sonics....."The available evidence FOR cable sonics amounts to sighted (read biased) testing and some blind tests, which latter did not use the required strict DBT protocols and must therefore be considered as methodologically flawed, hence worthless.
I did some cable comparison some time ago, using the tape loop method, which as such seems ok. Cables were the New York, a 1000$ Siltech (can't remember the model), van den Hul BayC5, stock wire, DIY silver. I played different tracks from the EBU SQAM CD. I couldn't hear any difference. I also compared some of the cables by connecting, disconnecting, re-connecting. No difference. The other day I wanted to know whether or not it makes a difference if my preamp is in the loop. I can connect any source component directly to my digital active speakers so I compared
CDP directly to speakers
vs
CDP via preamp, preamp to speakers
I could not hear a difference. I conclude that when a complex component such as a preamp does not make a difference, why should a cable. So I leave cables and cable sonics to those who believe and spend the extra mony on records, concerts and my other hobbies.
As a last point I'd like to mention those tests where a cable was compared with itself (Ã la John Dunlavy) and the participants heard a difference. Food for thought.
Klaus
