It has been shown that the knowledge of the identity of the component affects the test results. Therefore sighted tests are not valid for testing for differences between components. Period.

Audio hobbyists are clearly not the persons who can run a correct DBT: they are biased towards hearing a difference, they are not trained listeners. Do they know whether to use white noise or pink noise to match levels? Do they perform audiometric tests before running the DBT? Do they know what statistical methods to use for obtaining valid results?

When I say DBT I think more of the kind of test used by the real experts in that field (be it perceptional or audio) rather than those performed by hobbyists. And yet, when a difference between components disappears when a test is done where the identity of the components is not known that IMO raises questions w.r.t the very existance of these differences.
