Funny. I've found that (in my system/room/listening) tubes require a bit more volume to do justice to the music. At low levels they are sort of compressed and lifeless...

...but at fairly realistic levels they sound great.

Drop in the old solid state gear and low level listening improves greatly (but the realistic levels sound sort of thin and lifeless).

Amazing how this stuff varies so much from system to system, eh?
