Please explain "listener's fatigue"

How do you know if you have it?

More importantly, how do you know if you DON'T have it?

Can you judge a component's ability to cause/not cause listener's fatigue by its specs (i.e. power amp)?

Or, is it simply an "experience"?

I am thinking of upgrading but am frightful that the bookoo money I will spend will not cure my current affliction - that being of having no desire to listen to my system currently because it "just doesn't sound right" to me and I get no pleasure from it.

Am I going crazy?
