Re: Please explain "listener's fatigue"

205.134.242.10

You know you have listener fatigue if you find it difficult to enjoy listening to music for an extended period of time. If something's really wrong, it could be unpleasant to listen to a system for even a short period. Unfortunately you're experiencing this now.

You know you DON'T have listener fatigue if you're able to enjoy listening to music for hours on end, and doing so makes you feel wonderful.

As far as I know, there is no way to measure for listener fatigue.

Therefore, it is "simply" an experience. (Hey man, experiences are what life is all about -- not measurements on an oscilloscope!)

It's a drag not being able to enjoy listening to music because your system sounds "off", or at worse, painful. Upgrading can make things better, but it can also make things worse. Upgarding can also be an expensive trial-and-error experience. However, creating a musically enjoyable system doesn't have to cost a small fortune. In fact, I believe less ambitious systems are often capable of more musical enjoyment. One option you might explore would be to replace everything at once: set a budget, find a local dealer who can help you assemble a system that is pleasing to you. Ideally the dealer will be able to recognize which components in your system are worth keeping (if any) and which ones should go. Good luck.
