RE: Tweeter difference problem with 3.3Rs and more

I have not been on the inside of a 3 series, so I can't tell you how its put together. And the glue gun thing is news to me. I keep thinking of my Tympani, but I gutted the internal crossover so my drivers are connected directly to the terminals and I keep forgetting that people have crossover components between the terminals and the drivers.

The crossover on the tweeter has a parallel inductor, so you would be measuring DC on the inductor wire - essentially a short. So to measure the tweeter you need to disconnect it on one side.

The differences in top octave extension would indicate that the ribbon on one of them has been replaced with "something else" internally - perhaps a DIY "fix". someone once posted a repair for the ribbon with a conductive tape, was not satisfied with the results. Another replaced it with DIY pleated aluminum foil and they didn't quite match. And another replaced the ribbon with an unwound metalized polypropylene capacitor. Though all of these would be a potential fit, there is not particular reason they would have the same tonal structure as an original tweeter so would only be practical if done on both tweeters.
