Real_jj,I don't really know you. I was a bit put-off by your comment "There is no cure for determined ignorance." I have tried to educate myself. Just because we have come to different conclusions and beliefs, doesn't mean you're correct and I'm wrong.
Perhaps what you missed in my asking PAT to specifically answer my question was to try and get him to explain why and how he came to believe he's right and I'm wrong in our beliefs.
Sorry if it offends you, but I don't take much stock in someone who site's everyone else articles, or reads an article, likes what it says and hence it now becomes their world-view on that issue. Why? because it sounds good? How did he come to prove it true to himself? How did he discover it's actually the truth and not that it only sounds like it's the truth?
As much as you might not agree with what I've done or how I did it, I made an effort to educate myself via the same set of tests on solidstate, hybrid and tubed equipment. I was a diehard "cables sound different is bunk" advocate. I went into these tests I performed believing I'd hear no differences at all. But I wanted to know for myself. So I setup a series of tests to the best of my knowledge and abilities some 20 years ago. It was, in reality quite time consuming. I didn't just read an article on why cables sound different, like what it said and accept it as my new world-view on cables. This is hardly indicative of one who's determined to remain ignorant.
You sir without knowing me were very quick to insult me because I wouldn't accept Pat's suggestion to read so and so's article. If Pat D truly believes what he says he should be able to defend and debate his points of view, instead of parroting or pointing to an article he read. I now see Pat D cannot actually defend his point of view and like most of the Objectivists I speak with just opens canned answer # 1-8 as needed.
Please understand I have no scientific training, do no DIY and in all likelyhood could be easily "talked-over" by someone who manufactuers or builds simply because of their more indepth knowledge of electronics. Yet in spite of all that, I know what I heard, and I heard some dramatic differences in cables.
