Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

I for one do believe that you are hearing differences but that's not the real point!

The point is that exercises like yours do not prove, by no means, that the differences between the cables involved really exist.

So yes, you are hearing a difference and that is fine but is that difference real or is it imagined.

If you hear differences there might actually be a good reason for that. People like Nelson Pass have given technical explanations as to why cables may have an audible effect on sound. What you are hearing might be because of one those many reasons. In which case, no further discussion is needed.

When none of these reasons apply you might consider that the differences are imagined. In order to be sure that the differences are not imagined a controlled listening test would be to put on the agenda.

I have compared cables myself (silver DIY, van den Hul, stock, Siltech) and could not hear any difference. Does that prove that no differences exist? No, it does not but I did decide to spend my money on other stuff instead.
