Discuss a review. Provide constructive feedback. Talk to the industry.

Okay, I plead guilty.

I called the author guilty by association with the publisher. And I did just skim through it. I skim through ALL reviews, because now I am not interested in someone's opinions. I am interested in some of the pertinent measurement information: nominal impedance, sensitivity, minimum impedance, LF extension. If I were in the market for some speakers, I would glance at a list of recommendations - more often by word of mouth off the net, and make an effort to hear them myself.

I too have done DBT's and am not a complete off-the-rocker audiophile. I even did a peer-reviewed DBT on speaker cables during my days in "rec.audio.high-end". Guess what? There was still no concensus to a 20-trial test on that one for the whole group! Ha! It never ends!

Do you want my long dissertation about why I don't think these DBT's work out well? I still have it on file here at home, but I doubt we need to rehash that one again.

There is plenty I don't believe in. But OTL's, SETs, single-ended transistor amps, and MOSFET amps - well, those sound different and you can't convince me otherwise. I won't throw the baby out with the bathwater like Aczel did just because of a couple of negative DBT results. I need to know more about why the DBT's might have failed than to just take the results on faith that this is the real answer. So no, I don't think you know me enough to label Aczel's past beliefs as being one of ME.

But come on, B&W 801's as the REFERENCE speaker to judge all others by? I've heard that one plenty of times, and it's not in the league of so many of today's speakers.

Anyway, your input is appreciated. I needed that one to keep me straight.

Kurt
