The only analogy to be gleaned here is that reviewing a meal and an audio component are two different things entirely. The performance of the later is largely determined by various objective constraints.

Actually the real problem is that most consumer audio publications do not perform any at all, at any rate and to be brutally frank, measures well or poorly is subjective and largely dependent on application, is it "reasonably accurate" is a much better question and countless times it has been shown that an individuals preferences will not necessarily be for accuracy, that is fact that too many audiophiles fail to accept or even realise, rather they attempt creative ways of defining their own version of accuracy, the problem however is that well conducted measurements are largely invariable, they are what they are.
