jj, Pat D, etc. and the rest of the world outside the closed, inwardly looking world of audiophiles are not aware of any conflicting evidence. It is all easy and straightforward to explain with knowledge that has been established many decades if not centuries ago. Please supply a single piece of valid conflicting evidence.

I would be mildly offended to be called an audiophile by someone outside the audiophile world because it is a somewhat derogatory term and I do not subscribe to audiophile beliefs but, as far as I know, nobody has ever confused me with an audiophile. However, I recognise that audiophiles themselves are not offended by the term and apply it to themselves without any derogatory meaning. I found this odd initially when I started looking at audiophiles a few months ago but it is an inwardly looking world.

On the other hand, I do have a very strong interest in sound and, to a reasonable extent, audio equipment particulary transducers.

Possibly since I do not to fully believe in the tribalism. I tend to classify into those that understand how sound and audio works and those that believe, to various degrees, the marketing of dubious audio products. The latter I tend to call audiophiles rather than subjectivists because this is how it is viewed in the world outside (my tribe?).
