RE: Is this feasible? Rectifying 6.3v for heaters

It's difficult to make this work well unless the supply voltage is considerably higher than the filament voltage. You'll probably need to use a regulator like the LM338 with 5A capability and plenty of heatsink.

One alternative would be an inexpensive DC switching supply from eBay. They're relatively small, lightweight, inexpensive and adjustable. The 5V models are easy to modify for 6.3V, and some of the newer offerings even claim UL/CUL/TUV/CE/CB/CCC certification now. I've tried these with an 811A (6.3V/4A filament) and it had no trouble starting.
