Only 2 diodes of the 4 conduct at one time. I think your drop will only be half of what you're thinking.

The above sharp charging currents of more than 3.5amps when the load is only drawing .6 amps is what bothers me.

With a critical inductance choke input filter the charging currents are just a tad over the load current and sinusoidal.
