RE:Good luck

Thanks Satie,
Yes I am very tempted by the Anateks, - its an incredible bargain for these very good sounding amps. I have a couple of resevations though in that this guy has been trying to sell them for quite a while and he has had very only minor interest, - they might be very good, - but they are just not that well known which is no doubt hurting his sale. I had passed though his advert for them many times myself not knowning what they were and it was only brought to my attention when I conversed with him about his Promitheus when he mentioned he still had these monoblocks, - then I looked them up. So if I ever decided I wanted to shift them on myself, they might not generate that much interest as they are not very well known. Its not like reselling a AR, Quad, Naim Audio amp or another well known big brand. I'll see how they sound with his SMGa's on Sunday. If I was to buy them I would have to be prepared to keep them as they might be pretty hard to shift on.
He has the SMGa's for sale too, - I am a bit worried I might want to take them as well! (they would no doubt be better for my small room too than the 2.7/3 series).

I would be quite interested in this other guys IIIa's if they did have the same tweeter as the 3.3R, becuase then I would then obviously have tweeter spares for one set of 3 series speakers which is good, but I am not sure if its the same tweeter or not, - I was aware they chanegd the 3 series tweeter spec at some point but I am not sure when it was exactly, - I will have to find out. If they are different it might be a bit silly getting the IIIa's, they are of course likely to be identical sounding to the 3.3R (though I suppose it would be nice to have a back up pair of the same speakers though if you like them a lot!). His stands I am quite intruiged in, - will try to get them anyhow. He changed to a pair of more wife friendly smaller used Martin Logan SL3 but of course he says himself they do not sound anything like as good as the Maggies did but are more domestic friendly! So he is not sure exactly if he will sell the IIIa's, he might keep them for a later date, - he will tell me soon.

As for the Promitheus, - wanted to ask (though you might not know) this guy is selling a "Reference" version, - he says its the one that costs $720 currently. I am having a hard time finding out the difference between this and the standard version, - have you any ideas? There are a few people selling the standard version cheaper so I could go for that if there is not much difference.
Also some of these Promitheus have two sets of RCA outputs but others only have one. This guy's have one, not two. So I guess if I wanted to biamp I oculd use adaptors, but do you think they is any benefit from buying a model that has two sets of outputs in the first place? (is it better splitting the signal inside the unit) or should it make very little difference? Sorry to ask if it seems a simple quesion, - I am not too knowledgeable about this! Just thinking though, - this guy's reference model has a set of XLR outs as well as the one set of RCA outs, - could I active biamp using the XLR outs to the Behringer (for the power amp to bass panel)and the RCA outs to the cap and onto the internal 3.3R crossover for the mid/treble? Sorry to ask again I am not too knowledgable about XLR! Is a bad idea to use a balanced output and single eneded outputs at the same time for biamping?. Of course my input would be single ended RCA into the Promethius from my source *though this particular Promitheus does have XLR inputs too, - I just would not be using them)

Thnks again!
Colin
