RE:Crossovers

Thanks Satie,
Yes I agree the 300B amp is not powerful enough to do the mid/treble on its own. I am however in a small room right now (with neighbours nearby!, - I plan to move somewhere a lot better!) so it might work with the 300B amp but guess I woulnd't want to risk an underpowered amp damaging the ribbons anyway.
The KT90 amp you mention is much more ideal I suppose from a power output point of ciew, - thats similar power to the Grant amp I have (which is playing up at the moment unfortunately). There are however plenty of 2 output valves per channel push pull class AB KT88/KT90/6550 amps around though so I could always get another one in the future.

How about the Art Audio 30 WPC EL34 amp I have?, Is that too low powered as well?

As for the two transistor power amps I am using now (the NAD 208 and the Quad 606 MK2) they are both 20K input impedance. I read before that this is a bit of a low input impedance and might not work best if you wanted to use a pasive preamp, - woudl this cause a problem too suggesting the passive line level crossover solution you've suggested?

Wanted to ask too, - is it possible to use an integrated amp instead of a power amp (I have several quite good ones) to drive the mid/treble section (I would opt for more powerful NAD or QUAD power amps on the bass panel obviously) using one of their line level inputs and putting the volume control up max? Or does that makes it hard to do the cap trick and woudl the extra active line stage in the integrated amp degrade the sound and defeat the object of using the passive level crossover solution you've suggested?

All the best,
Colin
