RE: 2.6s vs. 2.5s ...

Hi Andy,
Many thanks for that. the tympanis are very nice, - rebuilt too!, - wish they were in the UK!
Its good to know they might be a way of getting very close to 2.6R performance from the 2.5R. I am keeping an eye out for a pair of either but nothing is turning up here right now!
I think I am leaning toward a 3 series Maggies right now actually as I'd like to go for the active Biamping route (as I explained in the above posts), - and biaming a 3 series Maggies seems quite straightforward (one power amp for the bass driver and another for the mid/tweeter (still using the internal passive crossover for the mid/tweeter)).
With a 2 way design like the 2.5 or 2.6 I guess biamping would be more difficult as driving the ribbon from an amp directly can be problematic according to what I have read (oscillations etc), - might be hard to find the right amp or you might need to put caps in front of the tweeter etc.

I see though that you are triamping your IIIas, - very nice, - I guess that's quite a bit better than biamping them as you are bypasing the mid/tweeter passive internal crossover which will no doubt lead to extra signal degradation when its left in the signal path with active biamping. What amp are you using on the tweeters?

Wanted to ask too if you'd be so kind as to have a look at my post from yesterday, - have you any ideas about my best choice for an active crossover for the 3.3Rs on my $400 budget?

Cheers again,
Colin
