I was going to ask about the dedicated midrange panel on the 3 series, - so yes I would imagine there is an advantage over the 2.5/2.6 in the midrange.
Bass I agee would be similar, - aren't the 2.5/2.6 quoted to go down to 37Hz, not 30Hz?

I am wondering perhpas though the shorter tweeter in the 2.5/2.6 might be better for my small room, but I suppose I should get a 3 series if I can, - better mid and when (same as you), - but I get the right room! Boy oh boy!

Which Maggies do you have in that room?
