RE:Good luck

Thanks a lot Satie,
I really don't want to butcher the 2.7QRs in case I ever need to resell them. I'll probably do whatever option is the best for preserving their physical condition! But the active option really is a good idea I think, - you are dead right, a used DC2496 will cost around the same or maybe even a bit less than the 2 indcutors and 2 big caps that would be needed to upgrade the bass section of the passive crossover. (the 2 caps and inductors would cost me about 140 pounds if I chose the ansar and the Mundorfs). And of course I need a DCX2496 for the 3.3Rs anyhow so its a no brainer really! I am an idiot I missed a used DCX2496 last week on Ebay UK for only £105! Finding another used one might take a little time.
Suppose if I am desperate I can always buy a new one.

Wanted to just ask (don't know if you have any ideas about this). I've converserd with a guy who lives down the road from me here that is selling a pair of Class A solid state monblock power amps. British built Anatek MB50 monoblocks.

Apparently they have very good parts in them and are very good sounding. The new price is £2650 but he is selling them for an insanely cheap £650! I am going to hear them on Sunday anyway as I going there to buy a Promethius reference TV preamp from him. He is using them with a pair of SMGa right now funnily enough.
These amps do 50Watts into 8 ohms and straight doubled 100 Watts into 4 Ohms. Do you think the is any chance these could drive my Maggies OK? Maybe not a 2.7QR or 3.3R in normal passive mode but they might be a super choice as amps to feed to the mid/tweeter crossover section of the 3.3Rs and 2.7QRs in a active biamp setup. They must have quite high input impedance (unlike my other SS amps) as they are reviewed with that Anatek passive preamp, - so I think could be good choice for the cap from the preamp idea.
What do you reckon?
Cheers,
Colin
