E-stat is biased . . .

but he's right, IMHO. If you have a room that can accommodate the specific placement requirements of planars (away from walls and corners), then they offer a very realistic sound.

The other drawback is that even the little MMGs require a pretty muscular amplifier to sound good in all but a quite small room, and, if you're a bass nut, you'll want a subwoofer.

But, in my experience, only planars make it sound like there really is an acoustic piano in the room.

And I have owned all kinds of speakers in the last 30 years, including Magnepans.
