...in the '80's needed room filling sound to drum along with, I was satisfied for 20 years until their foam surrounds rotted. (Have presently found vintage horn speakers to my liking.)A set of Polk 7b's, two sets of Radio Shack super tweeters and an EQ solved issues I had with frequency response and imaging-- huge and deep soundstage well past the backing wall.
Surprisingly, with the 901 rig properly set up and using Carver sonic holography, The Beatles "Magical Mystery Tour" (vinyl) placed McCartney as if he was singing from within the room like none other-- hauntingly real, and the most convincing instance of imaging I've ever heard. It was not easily repeatable however as speaker positioning and signal balance (air temperature, phase of moon!?!) are crucial.
Learned the importance of room-coupling and perception with the rocking 901's.
