Hurrah, someone else has noticed the main Bose sonic virtue: the tendency to not sound etched or shrill. Models like the 301 are a far better match for the mass-market CD carousels/receivers they'll likely be sold with than a lot of the other brands at the big-box store, which are often sizzle-boom culprits. The Bose one-box speakers (301's? 501's? Not sure what's current) are seemingly voiced to match up with the often cold-sounding Sony/Yamaha/Onkyo etc. electronics that get sold with the Bose stuff.
