Interestingly...

the lack of obnoxious tweeters probably has less upgraders than people who buy B&W and given the sales numbers of the two what does that say?

In 1996 Hi-Fi Choice did a blind panel listening session and the Bose 305 scored a recomended componants rating. Yes they noticed the wonky soundstage but you know there are many more worse things than creating an overly large soundstage.

Bright fatiguing etchy treble response is the single worst thing a loudspeaker can do -- and pretty much every single speaker under $2k using a metal tweeter has that ring sound on long listening just makes me want to turn them off. The 705 is smoother but it is still there and when you add a total lack of bass response and atrocious dynamics and curtailed volume level (big compression very fast) then you basically pay $2300.00 for a speaker with more problems than merits. Well gee I can buy lots of speakers with a whole pile of problems for a lot less money -- and I can definitely find ones much better and ones from their own company which are cheaper and have deeper bass and more power and are plain more FUN to listen to. Namely the B&W 604.
