I would use one word overall to describe the Bose thing

Gimmicky.

The original 901 was founded on the principle that because most of the sound you hear in a concert hall is reflected, then the speaker must spray most of the sound towards the back wall in order to replicate that. The result, exaggerated image size, can be entertaining, but never real. The use of full range drivers with the 901 also has merit, but poor execution. Yes, you can equalize the bejeesus out of a gaggle of midranges and get moderate bass, but you will never get quality high frequency reproduction. Naturally, I'm biased to prefer full range electrostats which do not possess those limitations.

The less extravagant 601s also relied heavily upon reflected output in its design. The result is just bizarre.

The only innovation with their new "waveguide" technology is with the spiffy new name. The concept of using folded chambers to enhance bass response is called a "transmission line" and has been around for decades. Bud Fried's IMF speakers are perhaps the best known examples.

My conclusion is that you can spend your money more wisely than to buy Bose. They are, however, masters at marketing.
