"Only one of the three was popular enough to headline Shea Stadium, ...they were fronted by a guy with a flute." Ummm...

...I hate to disillusion you, but by the late 70's Shea Stadium WAS a smaller venue (well, average size anyway, especially given floor or field seating at other large concert venues)!

The Beatles supposedly sold 56,000 tickets to their Shea Stadium performance which was a record attendance, ...in 1965; Grand Funk sold out Shea in '72 and probably outsold the Beatles! By the mid-70's construction of large arenas and stadiums for sports, conventions and concerts were commonplace and 50,000 to 60,000, even 100,000 seat concerts weren't uncommon in major cities.

So, no offense, but I'll differ with your "facts" given the context of the time.

>>> "Next you'll be telling us that Queen was better with Paul Rodgers than they were with Freddie Mercury." <<<

Nice troll, but I see no reason to trash Paul Rodgers efforts simply because your enamoured of Freddie Mercury. Don't you think that you should cut Paul Rodgers a little slack simply for accepting the challenge of performing songs that ANYONE would have difficulty covering because those numbers are so uniquely identified with Freddie???

AFAIC, Paul Rodgers acquited himself nicely given the iconic nature of the late Mr. Mercury's flambuoyant style, dynamic vocal range and formidable personae. If you don't believe me, watch the Queen with Paul Rodgers concert video sometime. Of course, if you've already made up your mind then there's no reason to continue this line of discussion, right?

Cheers,
AuPh
