I've have about 80 db of noise-induced hearing loss above 3k and the associated tinnitus. I've tried surgery (lydicaine / dexamethosane injections), valium, caffeine reduction, vitamins, etc. Medical science hasn't found a way to replace the damaged cochlear hairs, so I don't put a lot of stock in various remedies. My tinnitus is audible 90% of the time and can be heard over music and conversations at times. It sucks to think that I don't appreciate many of the qualities high-end audiophile equipment provides, because I don't hear them.Mine is much worse after strenuous exercise, any noise exposure, and appears to be worse after sugar intake, or sitting in a quiet room. A quiet place can be an enemy. I have found that when it is at it really loud I find comfort looking forward to the days when it is lower, as it comes in cycles. I use a white noise generator at night to distract my hearing from the silence, and I wear hearing protection around all power equipment (lawn mowers, saws, leaf blowers, etc).
I too recommend www.ata.org and have been a member for about 3 years.
My best advice is to protect the rest of your hearing by using protection.
