General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

Suffered for about 15 years with it.

I was first diagnosed with tinnitus when I was around 18 and the high-pitched ringing is still there in both ears. Stress is a major player in the severity of the ringing, or at least when I'm stressed I notice it more. I've been told my a few doctors that there's not much that can be done. The first few years were horrible and occassionally I think I'm going to lose my mind, but that passes. Check out the American Tinnitus Association for accepted treatments (www.ata.org).

I'm in the process of trying to eliminate caffeine to see if there's any effect and I've heard that Gingko Biloba is helpful, which I might try. If anything works, I'll let the other inmates knows. My ENT thinks that the ringing might be due to teeth grinding, which I do at night. He recommends that I wear a guard at night, which I have yet to do. I also hold a lot of stress in my jaw, which is clenched most of the day. Apparently, conditions associated with the jaw are often the culprit. I've always assumed that my tinnitus was caused by exposure to really loud live music. Who knows?

As you might imagine, relaxation techniques like yoga, getting plenty of sleep, and eating right are all helpful in keeping me stress-free. It's not a cure, but it's a solution.

Good luck.

Robert
