California is only 25%-30% of grid from solar at peak.
South Australia has done 100% of peak on a regular basis - this story and diagram are 4 years old. There is way more solar infeed now.The next stage is to subsidise the mass installation of domestic batteries so that more and more of the evening/night is covered by battery discharge. Houses and businesses can just switch from the grid to battery in the evenings, for as long as the battery capacity allows. More panels and more batteries = less gas turbine generation, at least until fusion becomes becomes a thing.
