There is no way a rod of metal that size, that far from the line cord conductors, will alter the reactance of that cord sufficiently to cause a drop of current or voltage in a power supply.You are talking about 200 nH per foot for a line cord, what...2 uH tops. Then, some widgit an inch away, causing what, another uH or 2 maybe? If you examine the lag that results from this, it does not explain a supply drop, regardless of how good or poorly the supply is designed.
Forget line cord reactance..forget the network analyzer phase numbers.
I suspect you forced the meter into a measurement mode that was incapable of accurate operation at the level you needed. I have to worry about that a lot here with my HP LCR meter, it isn't kind enough to let me know when the readings are garbage..
Again, it is NOT a supply droop issue, it is not a local supply issue at all...it is the grounding loop formed by the line cords, your equip, and the ic's. And, the widgit is affecting that.
