"SM designed power systems for computer data centers. We like listening to music. Neither of my laptops, however, really care too much for Mozart."How about for a machine that photographed individual atoms? When the scientist who bought it explained it to me, he said only a handful of people in the entire world understood how it worked. And what did they use it for? Proving that they had made the sharpest needle in the world. The tip was only nine atoms wide. Beginnings of nano-technology. Compared to that, the best hi fi amplifier in the world is an electronic junk heap.
BTW, the 2.5 KW amplfiers which drove the linear motors which positioned hard disc drive heads assemblies they developed at Sperry when I was there had to position them within a few microns. How much resolution do you suppose those amplifiers had?
If a designer of expensive audio equipment can't even select the best power cord and plug to supply with his unit, assuming he isn't clever enough to design his equipment so that it's immune to which one is used, and must rely on the customer to pick out the best one for himself, what makes you think he'd be any better at designing the rest of it?

- I imagine it has a well designed and cost no object power supply. This is not true of most audio equipment. nt - Norm 17:33:53 11/05/06 (0)
