Re: Wouldn’t DBTs show less bias and higher standards?

Sounds fine unless your less bias and higher standards hurt sales.

There are also significant differences between wine and audio equipment. I'm not a wine aficianado but do know a few. First of all, wine is a consumable. Even relatively expensive wines pale in comparison to a lot of high end audio equipment. People buy wine expecting it to be gone at the end of an evening. Not quite the same investment.

Second, people tend to like variety in wine. Even if they have a favorite, they don't want the same one day after day.

Third, and interestingly significant, is the wine community has apparently reached a fairly solid concensus on what constitutes a good wine. Their DBT's give pretty consistent results and the bulk of serious wine drinkers agree with each other on testing methods. Contrast that to audio where two listeners can barely agree on how far the digital clock in the room needs to be from the stereo.

With audio, if someone doesn't like the results of a DBT, there will =always= be an "out" whereby some aspect of the setup can be nitpicked.

Wine and audio? Nope, two completely different beasts.
