Probably pretty simple - sales & marketing. The high end guys have lots to lose and very little to gain. You can see the response that greets DBT tests around these parts. Many of their most loyal owners might even consider submission to a DBT an act of betrayal no matter what it showed.

At the other end, the low-end or mass market guys don't have much to gain as their audience doesn't really care about high end stuff. Many of their customers wouldn't even know what the high-end brands in question were.

So, if it doesn't help sales (and could hurt them) why bother?

It is also unlikely that magazines would be a serious source for these tests, either. Advertising revenue is too big a factor since any DBT test that declares winners is going to make one company happy and really tick off a whole lot more.

The most likely source of any serious DBT work would be at an academic level.
