RE: AN/E Kit 3 bass boominess

As R Browne suggested the AN's should be tried very hard in the corner. Everyone is so used to speakers free standing that we just don't see how it could work there - especially with a rear port.

I have my AN J very hard in the corner - nearly touching the walls so under an inch and toed in such that the tweeters are firing about a meter in front of me. Not like the traditional speaker placement the PMC owner below is used to. I like PMC too but I would advise him to read Kevin F's Audio Note level 3 system review in the reviews section under "other" since Kevin owned a top Bryston PMC kit it was quite an eye opener for him.

Anyway, bass becomes more of an issue the more bass the speaker possesses. The E has a lot of bass. i find the corner works for several other aspects of the sound and helps to create a "wall of sound" and aids the speaker in disappearing.

Also be aware that some recordings seem to have a kind of exaggerated elongated bass line. What I try to do if I want to double check is to run the recording through my HD 600 headphones which suffer no room issues and is an audible way to check for room issues versus recording issues rather than relying on test tones and SPL meters.
