Yes, the form-fitting is the principal limitation I was alluding to, and it does matter, but it should not cause boomy bass.
Do the Sistrum stands allow for spiking and mass loading? I know some people like them, but if they don't allow both of those things, they are missing the boat in an/some important way(s). (This advice is, btw, experience driven, not dogma driven. ;-)
