AN/E Kit 3 bass boominess

I've been loving my Kit 3 AN/Es for about six months now - actually the longest I've ever gone from being even tempted to try another speaker. :)

They really have only ONE weakness, which is that the bass does get a mite boomy on some material. I haven't been entirely successful in taming this with placement. I now have them about 10" from the side walls and 8" from the back walls. I know I could pull them out farther but then I fear I'll lose the dynamics the near-corner placement gives them.

Is this an area in which the factory speakers substantially better the kits?

I experience the boominess with both a Kurashima PX4 amplifier and a pair of WE91 300B clones. So, I don't think it's the amplification.

Any other ideas?
