Home Amp/Preamp Asylum

So far my Purifi amp has the best highs, BUT ...

The buffer I used with it in my VTV amp made a difference. (The Purifi 1ET400A module has very low gain and a buffer is necessary to boost that gain.)

I first ordered the Hypex NC Evaluation Board (buffer); it is "pin compatible" with the Purifi module. At the time the VTV wasn't offering the Purifi EVAL-1 board.

The Hypex sounded terrible: screechy, unnatural highs especially noticeable in louder passage -- unlistenable.

So I ordered a VTV buffer with Sparko SS3602 discrete op amps. However I also tried OPA1612, OPA627, and maybe an LME op amp which one I don't recall; they were all better than the Hypex. I also tried Burson V6 Vivid op amps which had a slightly warmer, fuller sound than the others. All said & done, I liked the Sparkos SS3602 op amps best which is what I'm using now and really enjoying.

I would describe the Sparkos SS3602 om amp in this context as completely neutral with smooth, grain-free highs.

NOT the 51st state, eh!?!
