RE: Magnepan MG-1.7: casual impressions

I've wondered that too. The only side-by-side comparison I've seen seemed to give the edge to the 1.6's, but it could have been a matter of setup. I'd expect Jonathan Valin to do pretty well with setup, not sure about reviewers who have less time or experience. But, of course, no reviewer is going to spend years dialing them in.

There's also the question of whether audiophiles prefer more colored sound, reviewers more neutral. I've seen an interesting debate on the Magico Q5's, reviewers at Stereophile and TAS gushing over them and a whole bunch of people who have heard them saying, in essence, what's so great about these?

I'd have a better idea if I'd heard them myself! Or even seen a response curve.
