Apogee's have bass. And that i spades!
The bassmembrane is aluminium glued to Kaptone and suspended all around.
The high frequency is ribbon, yes
The bassmembrane is pretty light and fast.
The speakers I have (Apogee Duetta II) have bass down to 25Hz and what base then. hahaha
The difference between Magnepan and Apogee is that Apogee uses a tuning system that is by far better then Magnepan's where You don't need to restrict membrane movement with rivets to get certain resonance frequencies.
You get dynamics like nothing else. ;)
Weight of a membrane is not the single factor in reproducing bass. A lot of others are.
Sure adding weight will lowering resonance but then... it will NOT be as fast. hehehe
