By way of reinforcing what MaggieLover said, dealer showrooms tend to be overdamped for dipoles. Boxes are less directional, and need the damping to image properly. But dipoles drown in it.
Also, I just read someone on another forum complaining that the 1.7's were too bright! The sound of any speaker can range from bright to dull depending on the surrounding acoustics, which is why they have tweeter level controls or, in the case of Maggies, el cheapo PITA wirewound resistors.
