RE: Some older Wilsons and Magnepans had midbass humps. People seemed to liked it...

That's why I said "improperly".

You can't fix a BSC problem with "subs" unless you cross them over ridiculously high which doesn't work due to localization.

The only thing one could do in that case is move them closer to the wall (ick for most) or impart an EQ shelfing filter (also ick for most).

I never understood why people try to add sub-bass to a system to fix a bass problem.

My "solution" was once to put nice 12" beefy woofer cabinets under standmounts - woofer cabinets instead of subs. Crossing over lower was typically easier, sometimes even using the natural rolloff of the standmounts. It was somewhat disingenuous of me to claim, at the time, that "subs can work" when in fact all I did (in practical terms) was turn a 2-way design into a three way design.

The HE 3-way I am listening to right now has a 6.5" pro-sound mid with a neo-tweet which is not a stand-mount but simply the mid-high cabinet of a 2-cabinet three-way.

With my DIY Frankenspeakers, it's surely a matter of semantics at that point.

But, all that said, a single sub in a corner best not be booming away any higher than 65 or 70hz or do, even with a 4th order lowpass filter.
