Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

You have to have some understanding of the measurements . . .

"Stereophile has measured both the Quad 989 and the 57"

I would like to know where you have found measurements for the original Quad, often called the Quad 57, on the Stereophile site. I see some for the ESL-63 and ESL-989.

You have also been shot down on the Klipschorn, which measured pretty well in many respects. I have that review hanging around someplace, too. In other words, you have pretended to know what the measurements were like without actually having a clue.

"Harman's site is terrible science from start to finish so do not provide that boased caca."

ROFL. I doubt Dr. Floyd Toole will retire in disgrace because of your opinions! Perhaps most people prefer other characteristics in speakers than you do.

"the flat is best crowd"

Who might those be? Check out Richard Greene's comments below.

Now, those who have done speaker measurements, including the old High Fidelity magazine and Julian Hirsch, would tell you it's not so easy to interpret the measurements large speakers with lots of drivers and large panel speakers.

But if you think the Quad ESL-63 measures badly as far as FR goes, I strongly suggest you look at the room response in Fig. 2 in the Stereophile review:

http://stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/416/index11.html

Then, JA also did a room response for the ESL-989, which you will find in Fig. 1 at the following URL:

http://stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/720/index9.html

You might look up more measurements on this site under the Quad ESL button:

Measurements need to be interpreted. As I have suggested in the past, if speaker measurements don't mean anything to you, you should ignore them.
