Hey Paul,
Kudos for trying it!!! You describe much of the magwire sound...clean is the word for sure and the staging and rhythm.
A couple of thoughts:
Yes the long runs are an issue to be sure. Anything you can do to change this will go a long way to help. I always say 8ft or lower, but I do recall I think I said to give it a try based on another post of long runs.
I wasnt aware you were using tubes, which often can have issues on the bass...at least mine wasnt as ballsy as the solidstate stuff.
Now you dont quite mention the config. If I read things right, there are 2 22g wires and 2 26g wires for each speaker?? But you didnt quite say if they were twisted around each other, or if they were just lying loose, etc.
Sure burn in helps and do wait a bit to see how they shake out, but the thin wires tend to sound thin on the bass if they can vibrate even a bit. See if you can wrap them with some teflon tape or around some cotton strings, or use some cable lifters. Given your long run you can try doubling or tripling the recipe. Maybe 5-6 runs are needed
The whole point of this test is for you to see and hear what magic there is in this wire. You still have some work ahead of you to find the right balance for your system.
One final thought and it is a bit controversial. Most wire IMHO is bloated and sadly we have grown used to the bloat...it becomes the defacto norm....but is it right???
That tempo sounding unhurried shows you what the bloat covers up and what is often missing in systems and is masked by cables.
Picture this, you grow up drinking water with mud in it. Your mom pours you water and it is thick and brown. What do you think your reaction will be when you get pure water??
Give it some time, treat the vibration, and start adding additional runs. My hunch is that you can get to a point where you are happy.
Cut to razor sounding violins
