use the search function for more explicit detail, I know it is there (or a link to a repair description or two). In fact, I recall one funy post about 36 steps to doing a ribbon repair, I think 6 of the steps involved drinking!
Anyway, the short of it was that it wasn't something you wanted to do if you could avoid it, but it could be done. I read different estimates from 6 to 12 hours, but seemed there was "down time" baked in there as you waited for glue to dry or set, etc. There is a reason why they give you 3, they expect at least one to get ruined. Yes, it could be done on the kitchen table, but only if you wanted to eat a meal or two at the couch. Tedious was the best overall description.
Mind you I've never done one, but only read thoroughly since I too just bought a pair of maggies with true ribbons (2.5/R) and know they're likely to have bad ribbons so was researching and asking in anticipation of picking them up. My take away was that I'll just pay for the replacements rather than the kit, but I'm in Jersey (USA), not Old Jersey (near by you).
One other thought is have you no one who crosses the pond? Fellow workers? Friends? Family? Maybe some nice soul on these boards with an upcoming trip would assist? Long shot, but who knows?
Good Luck
