I haven't tried the fuse bypass, so I don't know personally how it compares to changes in the crossover components. I do know that there are some "hi fi" fuses for those who want to keep them, don't know how good they are.
In a way, it could be safer to bypass the ribbon tweeters, since while they're more fragile they're relatively inexpensive to fix, if a diaphragm melts and Magnepan has to replace the mylar you're in for quite a bill . . .
I do know that I'd be inclined to bi amp rather than upgrading crossover components, since among other things you're restoring full electrical damping at the crossover points. I eventually plan to play with Thuneau Allocator, though at the rate things are going with these renovations from hell it's going to be several more months before I can even listen to what I have . . .
