Yes, we are on the same page here.
I finally understood, a couple exchanges ago that you wanted me to swap phase / polarity for the entire panel. I've got the switch for that on my amp so it is easily tested. So far, minimal to zero effect. Some tunes are so phase jumbled as to render the swap meaningless.
As for swapping DRIVER phase, I understand the 1.6s come electrically OUT of phase, the reason being the 1st / 2nd order crossover. Putting tweeters IN or OUT will result in one driver being closer to you than the other. It is just possible that the speaker would sound better with one driver ahead or behind the other......JUST a thought. The effect is due to the time delay BETWEEN drivers. They are maybe 6" apart which is about 1/2 millisecond at the speed of sound. Smear? Other audible artifact?
To actually do the swap? Well, on my 1.6 which is setup for biwire, why not just CROSS the jumpers? As long as you don't short 'em, (doom on you), You'll be OK. I may make up a pair of jumpers out of banana plugs and short lengts of zip cord. No $$ for big tests, but I should be able to hear any phase effects pretty easily........
Since sound travels at a given speed....what? 1050 or 1100 feet per second, you may be able to hear the EFFECT of one driver leading or lagging the other or simply be able to tell when it changes. If there is a preference, this should stay constant without regard to the phase of the recorded music. Just a theory, To Be Tested!
So far, I'm loving the front/ rear rotate. It has all the virtues which slapped me in the face the moment I tried it. So far, the only vice? NOT
Too much is never enough
